Someone wrote in the Herald that your office and you are easily reached. That has not been my experience. Quite the negative is true. I have sent a number of e-mails to you and your office concerning recent issues and have recieved nothing in return, except for one form letter. As far as your ability to represent me as a member of your district, you are a failure. Looking at your voting record as opposed to Pelosi's voting record, I have found only one bill where you voted against her (S 2830) and one other occasion where she did not vote at all. I get the feeling, as I look at the bills and voting record that you find it necessary to vote with her on most occasions, and I wonder if South Carolinians have not been harmed by your voting record. After all, you do work for us and should be representing us, not Californians.

Concerning local issues I find the Congressman useful, because the first duty is to take care of the local district and that means trading off anything else to get money from Washington. Spratt produces, protects Shaw AFB without which Sumter would collapse, and that's all we need. No one junior to him can be as effective, so I vote for him because his power benefits Sumter County.

Congressman Spratt lost the courage and vigor of his convictions during this last term, voting with Pelosi on out of control spending bills, massive deficit loads, and social legislation that even his staff admits was opposed by 98% of his district. He's lost the allegiance of loyal Democrat supporters by refusing to meet with them last year during the health debates, saying he has to vote with DC instead of SC-5 on issues like cap and tax, union bailouts, etc. Goner.
